Everything You Need to Know About Keracolor
What is Keracolour?

Keracolor's Color + Clenditioner products are a range of semi-permanent hair colours ranging from vivid, pastel and natural shades. These non-lathering conditioning cleansers instantly deposits direct dye colour pigments with every wash to enhance, brighten and tone hair by adding color intensity. The products can be used to extend colour between salon trips, or on lighter hair colours, be used as a hair dye to add vibrant new colour so you can try out a new look!

The Keracolor line is infused with Keratin, combined with nourishing and rejuvenating coconut oil, shea butter, rose hip oil, jojoba oil & almond oil making your hair healthier and silkier with each use. All products are sulfate, paraben, cruelty and gluten free.

Get to Know the Keracolor Range

There are three collections within the Keracolor Range: the Pastel Color Collection; the Vivids Color Collection; and the Naturals Color Collection. Here is a brief summary in to what each range is all about.

Vivids Color Collection

The Vivids Color Collection is made up of: Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, and Teal.

These vibrant colours can be used on bleached hair or hair with a starting level of 7 of higher for vibrant true to tone color. Level 6 or lower starting hair levels will result in little to no visible tint of color.

The Vivid Color Collection can also be used on light to medium blondes to provide rich vibrant tones with depth on darker hair.

Pastel Color Collection
The pastel color collection includes: Rose Gold, Light Pink, Mint, Platinum, Silver and Silver Blue.

To achieve the best results, we recommend using on bleached hair only at a level 9 or higher.

Individual results vary depending on the color and hair color history.

Tone it out. Brassy to Sassy. Keracolor’s Color + Clenditioner Platinum can be used as a cooling toner to yellow and golden tones in your hair. A hair toner can help correct and personalize hair color. This product helps banish unwanted brassy and yellow/golden undertones in the hair and to maintain your desired hair color.

Naturals Color Collection

The naturals color collection includes: Honey, Merlot, Mocha, Onyx, Espresso and Copper.

Naturals are great for enhancing and refreshing hair colors in between salon services.

The Natural Collection generally works well with 7-10 starting hair levels.

However, note that the shades Onyx, Espresso and Mocha are recommend only for those with hair levels below 6.

Please note that all end results vary depending on the colour chosen and your hair colour history

Step 1 - Know Your Hair Colour

Knowing your hair colour level is essential if you are looking at trying out the Keracolor range as majority of the products are relatively hair-level specific. Your hair level refers to how much pigment your hair contains - in other words, how light or how dark your hair is. The lower the number the darker the colour. It's relatively easy to work out - just refer to the hair colour chart provided below!

Levels 1 - 4
Keracolor products are NOT a bleach, so are unlikely to create any real change on low hair level colours.
If you have hair that falls within levels 1-4, you will want to prelighten your hair to get any new colour to show.

Level 5
Levels 5 is the darkest possible for a visible tint of color after using Keracolour without any pre-lightening.
If your hair is in this range, you will get the best results with similarly dark colors to have any visible hue.
Colors to use: Onyx and Espresso

Levels 6 + 7
Most of the Keracolor vivid and highly pigmented colors will take well to hair at levels 6 and 7, and may just turn out a few shades darker or more subtle than they would appear on a pre-lightened base.
We do NOT recommend using the shades Onyx, Espresso and Mocha on level 6 hair and above.
Colors to use: Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Merlot, and Copper

Level 8
The majority of the Keracolor colours will turn out really vibrant on level 8 hair, with the exception of the pastel collection.
Colors to use: Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Honey, Merlot, and Copper

Level 9
Almost any color will work on this base color and depending on the porosity of your hair.
Some pastels may take to a level 9 as well.
Colors to use: Rosegold, Light Pink, Mint, Platinum, Silver, Silver Blue, Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Honey, Merlot, and Copper

Level 10
Any colour will work on this base color.
Pastels will turn out best on a level 10 base or lighter, since these pigments are quite light.
Colors to use: Rosegold, Light Pink, Mint, Platinum, Silver, Silver Blue, Blue, Emerald, Hot Pink, Purple, Red, Teal, Honey, Merlot, and Copper
Step 2 - Strand Test

Like any product containing dye, Keracolour products can cause irritation to some users. Because of this, a preliminary patch and strand test should be performed before use. Never done a preliminary patch and strand test before? No problem! Just follow our easy guide below.

Stage 1
- Before starting, decide whether you want to apply Keracolour onto wet or dry hair
- Starting with dry hair will result in a bolder final colour, but it can easily be applied on wet hair too

Stage 2
- Start by taking a small strand of your hair (preferably one in a more hidden part of your head!)
- Apply your chosen Kercolor product onto the chosen hair strand using gloved hands (to avoid staining your skin)
- If any signs of irritation occur upon or at any stage after application, rinse the product off immediately and cease from using it

Stage 3
- Leave the product on you hair strand for 5-10 minutes.
- The longer you leave the product on for, the more intense the colour will become
- If the colour has not yet reached your desired intensity, leave it on for longer and constantly check the colour, up to a total of 20 minutes

Stage 4
- Rinse the product off your hair strand using warm water.
- If no irritation occurred, you're ready to move on to stage 3!
Step 3 - Application

Once you've done your patch test and achieved your desired colour on your hair strand, you're ready to move onto the general application stage.

Stage 1
- Choose your tools! We recommend using either gloved hands (to avoid staining the skin on your hands) or a tinting brush.
- We also recommend having on hand a wide tooth comb - this will help ensure you have an even coat of colour all over your hair later on in the process.

Stage 2
- You can apply Keracolor products onto wet or dry hair
- Starting with dry hair will result in a bolder final colour, but it can easily be applied on wet hair too

Stage 3
- Section your hair and apply a generous amount of Keracolor product to each section using your chosen tool.
- Gently massage the product into your hair to ensure the colour is coated evenly across your head
- If you had your comb handy, run it through your hair as this will also help distribute the product evenly

Stage 4
- Leave on for 3–20 minutes, depending on the color saturation intensity you desire.
- The length the product was left on during your patch test will usually be sufficient.

Stage 5
- Rinse the product out of your hair completely using warm water.

Stage 6
- If colour has not reached the intensity you are wanting, do multiple applications until desired color is achieved by working your way through steps 2-5

Stage 7
- Once you are happy with your colour, style hair as usual and enjoy your new look!!
