Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
As many of you probably know, we love stocking spooky makeup collections every Halloween - and this year is no different. Beetlejuice was this year's Halloween hero from Makeup Revolution and we are so wrapped you are all loving it!

The collection consists of a whopping 18 Beetlejuice-esque products. Having the items in the building and packing all your orders got the team chatting about the 1988 movie and who had actually seen it.

We'd never seen the movie...

Turns out only Gemma and Jaz had seen the film, leaving the other 3 of Team Beauty Bliss a bit out of the loop. We start talking about having a watch party to get us all up to speed when Toni suggests seeing if a local theatre has it on show for the spooky season.

To our luck, The Roxy Cinema in Miramar was showing it in a couple weeks time. But not only was the movie going to be showing, The Roxy had also teamed up with a local bar NoLo+ and their very own team from CoCo at the Roxy to create a matching cocktail and dessert. Perfect!

Fast forward a few days of being excited and “I can’t wait” vibes, there we were.

We had some treats...

We made our way up to theatre one and in the open lounge space was a table filled with a delicious looking dessert and the bar with drinks ready to go.

NoLo produced the “Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice..” cocktail which was also very on brand being totally out there in flavour and presentation. Beetroot vodka, chocolate liqueur, clarified beets, absinthe, beetroot lemonade with a mulled apple foam. Wow!

CoCo at the Roxy’s “Come Mister Tally Man, Tally Me Banana, Daylight Come & We Want To Go Home” was a delight. Caribbean spiced flan with banana ice cream, graveyard soil & Betel scotch drizzle. Very on theme and so tasty. 10/10 would eat again!

Now we’re all in the theatre with the other movie goers and settling in. The opening credits roll and the movie starts off slow. We had all been talking about what it was like but I wasn't really ready for how odd it was going to be.

Beetlejuice is definitely a Halloween classic with its hand made puppets, SFX makeup and (to this day's standard) goofy looking greenscreen effects. All of those things really added to the whole ‘strange and unusual’ feel of the movie though.

Throughout the movie we had those “oh that’s what that is” moments as the items in the Beetlejuice collection were mentioned or referenced.

We spotted some references...

  • The first reference to pop up was the “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” that Adam and Barbara receive early in the movie, which in the makeup collection was a 3 shade highlighter palette. Sadly this product sold out really fast - hopefully Revolution bring us a version 2 one day!

  • Lydia's quote of “I, myself… am strange and unusual” is used on theStrange and Unusual Eyeshadow Palette and the Green Mascara.

  • Beetlejuice wants you to say his name throughout the whole film to conjure him! Hence the Say My Name eyeliner.

All around it was a fun night, those of us who hadn’t seen the movie before felt a bit less like fake fans and we all got to eat a tasty pudding.

And don’t forget… Never Trust the Living.
